Our Quarantunes Playlist

I typically play the role of DJ in the office and impose my exquisite taste in music on everybody all week long. But now that the team is working from home, Dorian and Victoria are most probably happy to be “ear distancing” and playing their own playlists. Here’s a small compilation of what we’ve all been listening to separately. Enjoy :)

//DORIAN

. What You Don’t Do, Lianne La Havas
This is one of my favorite songs to listen to in the morning to help motivate and put me in a good mood. I open my blinds, let in the morning sunlight, and dance around my room as I get ready for the day.

. Outta My Head, Khalid ft. John Mayer
Now that the weather is getting warmer, I love listening to this song in my car with the windows rolled down on a sunny day. The melody is fun and the guitar solo never fails to make me happy.

. Golden, Harry Styles
With all of the craziness of this quarantine, this has been one of my favorite songs to listen to whenever I go on an afternoon walk around my neighborhood. It's relaxed, upbeat, and always puts me in a good mood.

. Knocks Me Off My Feet, Stevie Wonder
Stevie Wonder is my dad’s all time favorite artist, so naturally I grew up listening to his music all of the time. This one brings back fun childhood memories and cheers me up every time.

//VICTORIA

. Walkin' on Eggshells, Courtney Barnett
Now that I have 8+ hours a day to fill with music, I've been revisiting a lot of my favorite artists and listening to their complete discographies to pass the time. I have to be in the right mood to listen to Courtney Barnett's music, but I rediscovered this song and it reminded me how much I like her unique, poetic lyrics and unusual sound.

. Perfectly Lonely, John Mayer
If quarantine could be summed up by one song, Perfectly Lonely is that song. I could listen to John Mayer's music for hours (and have been for days on end lately), and when I heard this song a few days ago it hit home. I think most people are feeling a bit lonely and isolated lately because FaceTime just isn't the same as interacting in person.

. Mothers Desk - Jen Cloher
Whenever I don't know what to listen to, I almost always put on Jen Cloher's music. Each song and album she creates captures a specific emotion and tells a story. I love that each time I listen to one of her songs, I notice something new. This song in particular is beautiful because it starts off soft, but picks up as it goes on. It's also a reminder that it's important to stay connected to family and friends, because they won't always be here.

. Alaska (acoustic) - Maggie Rogers
I could (and do) play this version of Alaska on repeat forever. Although the original version of this song is also great, there's something about this acoustic version that makes the song more meaningful. Alaska is a song about taking time to process everything that is happening in your life and essentially "walking it off." This is such a stressful time for everyone, but it's also given us all an opportunity to take a step back and reflect on what's important and take time to do things we've avoided for whatever reasons.

//GUY (& VERENA)

My (and indirectly Verena's) playlist is an escape from all of this temporary social distancing and cocooning. European hip-hop, latin bachata, brazilian bossa or african vibes... all of the songs we've been listening to lately are mentally making us board a plane and travel the world.

. Moi, Lolo Zouai
After having listened to Angèle's album on constant loop for weeks last year, it was about time to find a new french R&B artist before Verena thinks I have a crush on Angèle...

. Deni Sabali, Africando
Who doesn't like sizzling hot-dance music? This one is a bit special since it combines latin music with african singers

. Just As I Am, Spiff TV ft. Prince Royce & Chris Brown
Verena can listen to Bachata any day at any time so this one and others has been looping over and over

. Você Não Presta, Mallu Magalaes
Make your favorite cocktail, lay down in a long chair and slip your feet in the warm beachy sand... That's the Bossa Nova effect
